What’s ‘in store’ at StoreMe

Providing Olney with a new, multipurpose, indoor, self-storage facility, we’re now open and the storage units behind those bright green doors are being put to good use!

With the Self-Storage Association having recently said that the use of self-storage was up by almost 9% last year, we’re delighted to be filling the gap in the market in the local area. It’s great to see how popular our service is already proving, with customers now in store in Olney and from Milton Keynes.

Storing your belongings in a facility that’s close to you saves time, money, and unnecessary stress. Here’s a few tips for how to make the most of your storage space:

Store with care

With a bit of care and preparation, packing before moving your items into store needn’t be a nightmare.

  • Clean items, such as clothes and appliances, before storing them – any dirt can turn into mould!
  • Label everything and use good quality, correctly sized packing materials
  • Yes, it’s an obvious one, but don’t store heavier boxes or items on top of lighter ones
  • Take time to wrap fragile items in bubble wrap, individually
  • Pack everything with care – even books and clothes can endure damage. Flat pack books to avoid spine damage and store clothes in a hanging wardrobe
  • Protect larger items such as sofas bed frames wardrobes with transit blankets
  • Boxes should be square, flat and not bulging at the sides, for easy stacking
  • Fill any gaps in boxes with something soft and light, like scrunched up packing paper
  • Pack light items, such as cushions and pillows, into larger boxes, and heavier things, such as toasters, kettles, and large crockery into smaller boxes

How to store

It’s important to store things in your unit as efficiently as possible.

  • Keep frequently used items at the front
  • Stack to the ceiling
  • Organise your items and keep similar possessions together
  • Disassemble furniture – remembering to keep all the screws and bolts together!
  • Create an aisle with a clear path down the centre

By following these steps you’ll be spared from having to do extra work when it comes to searching for certain items. You might also find that you’ll be able to save money by renting a smaller unit.

Next up, we’ll be looking at how self-storage can help you to do your bit for the environment in reducing your carbon footprint. Watch this space!
